History

The last thirty years of vine-growing have shaped the history of this southern region but the history of Clos Saint Gorges is rooted in the furrows left by the Greeks, the Romans, the Knights Templar and the Cathars in Languedoc Roussillon. In 1970, Dominique and Claude ORTAL began to guide the destiny of Clos Saint Georges, with a view to perpetuating the immutable rite of vineyard and wine. The passion of this couple for their vineyard and their untiring quest to take the art of wine-grower at its highest level have made Clos Saint Georges one of the finest vineyard of southern France..

Vineyard

Clos Saint Georges is located in an exceptional land called "The Aspres", a corner of paradise in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Today, the vineyards of Clos Saint Georges extend over 120 ha, -with 50 ha of young plantations were established in 2010 and 2011-, so that it is one of the most important wine-producing entity in South of France. New plantings - Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat d’Alexandrie, Muscat Petit Grain - will quickly bring the potential annual production from 2500 to 5000 hl. But the vineyards of Clos Saint Georges are also brands Clos Saint Georges, Canterrane Castle, Camomille Castle, Clos des Aspres and the “Emotion Oc Collection”.
With a deep respect for environment, rational farming methods are implemented in the vineyards of Clos Saint Georges : systematic ploughing, abandonment of chemical herbicides, reasoned and controlled treatments .... all factors allowing the production of high quality wines where the authenticity of terroir has found its place.
